Virgen de Regla Sanctuary and Museum/ Proyecto Espiral

Our first stop of the day was to the Virgen de Regla Sanctuary and Museum. The sanctuary and museum were both housed in Regla, a small town not far from Havana, the city we were staying in. To get to the museum and sanctuary we took the lanchita, a small commuter ferry that runs between Havana and Regla. When we arrived we had an outstanding guide who provided us with a detailed history of the sanctuary, the museum and the Virgen de Regla.

Our day ended with a meeting with a community project Proyecto Espiral. We had an amazing interaction with the individuals connected with this project about US and Cuban interactions. Crom this conversation we were able to articulate our prior perceptions of Cuba and how those perceptions had changed since our arrival. We were also able to learn about Proyecto Espiral purpose and were impressed with their commitment to improving various aspects of their communities.
