Juan Marinello Institute and El Rincon de los Milagros

Our day started out with us meeting with individuals from the Juan Marinello Institute. Within this meeting we were able to discuss gender dynamics, race relations and body politics in Cuba. While these topics were heavily discussed throughout our trip,  this meeting provided us with the most information about these issues. Before this meeting we were all attempting to conceptualize these issues in Cuba without forcing it into our esetablished U.S. framework. The Juan Marinello Institute scholars explained the intricacies of Cuban social identities in a clear and concise way which allowed us to better understand the social issues in Cuba.

We finished our day at the El Rincon de los Milagros. This establishment had several brilliant pieces of artwork, poetry and many elaborate representations of the Orisha's. While there we were able to meet the artist who crafted the pieces that are presented below. During our visit we also witnessed a spirited discussion about the origins of Regla de Ocha.
